21 things I learnt before turning 21

-
Don’t compare yourself to others
Everyone is different and you never know anyone’s full story, so don’t make assumptions about a person based on face value. -
There is good in everyone
-
When things are bad they will get better
Ok this is a very vague statement, but just there will be a time in your life where you will be faced with a difficult struggle. But when things get really tough, it’s important to know that they will improve, no matter how hard that is to believe in that moment. With passing time ( usually a long time, which is annoying) you may even begin to appreciate the tough situation you were faced with, as it will allow you to appreciate the happy times in your life even more. -
Being skinny won’t make you happy
I learnt this the hard way, but having the perfect body will NOT MAKE YOU happy, it won’t make people like you anymore and it won’t make your problems go away. -
It’s completely ok not to have a clue what you’re doing with your life or where you’re going
I wish I knew this when deciding what college course to pick and just every life decision in general. Nobody really has a clue what they’re doing so sometimes its ok to just go with the flow and see how things turn out, you don’t have to have it all figured out, no one does. -
Love yourself for who you are
Ok this is sooo generic and typical to say, I know it’s easier said than done. But there honestly is no point in trying to be someone that you’re not. Just accept you are who you are, and LOVE YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE. -
Don’t sweat the small things
Not worth it honestly. I can’t even remember what I used to worry about when I was 15 but I remember getting veryy stressed about it. So if it’s not going to matter to you in five years then it shouldn’t matter now. -
Not everyone is going to like you and that’s ok
You not going to be everyone’s cup of tea so don’t even try to be. -
Nobody gives a FUCK about you
Haha I mean this in the nicest way possible. Like if you are stressing about what outfit you should wear, or the massive spot on your face. Nobody honestly will even be even looking at you. People are so consumed in their own lives that they don’t have enough time to worry about you despite what you might think. -
Find out what you enjoy doing and make time to do it
Whatever makes you gives you happiness, make time in your life to do it. -
Smile every single day
Just do it -
Take your time
I hate when I hear people talking about how short life is and I feel like I need to book the next flight out of the country and go skydive or some other extreme shit like that in order to be living my life to the full. Life is long enough, so don’t put pressure on yourself. If you really want to do something you will do it eventually. -
Shit happens, life does go on
Everyone that has ever lived has made a mistake. Accept what you’ve done and that you’re human and just leave it in the past. -
Be kind to people, AND TO YOURSELF
Be nice to people, it doesn’t cost you anything. Most have been through something that let us know how hard life can be sometimes, so why make anyone’s life harder than it needs to be. -
Its OK to ask for help when you need it
Don’t suffer in silence. Sometimes it’s the hardest thing to do, to reach out to someone as this means that you’re admitting that your struggling. But everyone struggles and you don’t have to do it on your own. -
Diets are silly
Same as before, diets just make you hungry and miserable and that’s not fun at all. So if you want to make changes to live a healthier lifestyle, don’t even think of trying a diet. Make more permanent changes that will make you happier and will be easier to sick to in the long run. -
Give thanks every single day
Have gratitude for all the things you have, not everyone is so lucky to have all the things you do, so don’t take anything for granted, even the small lil things. -
Make time for those who you love
-
Give people a second chance, everyone makes mistakes
Forgiving people who have done wrong to us is hard, but by forgiving someone it will allow you to move on. Staying bitter and angry will just eat away at you. -
Don’t let fear stop you from doing something that you want to do
Don’t let your fear of trying something new stop you from doing it. Most of the time it’s the thought of the actual thing that is worse than doing it. -
Don’t talk negatively to yourself
It is only going to make you more miserable and won’t change anything.
